The Social Security Administration is contacting over 1 million disability claimants who receive low Disability Insurance Benefits to tell them about Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and how to apply for it.  The current federal maximum for SSI for 2021 is $794 per month.  Disabled claimants who receive SSDI benefits below this amount might be eligible for SSI benefits and Medicaid.  Other assets and resources go into the calculation of eligibility for SSI, but many people may be eligible and should apply.

A smaller outreach program is underway for approximately 4,400 claimants who received dismissals of their request for hearings between March 2, 2020 and August 3, 2020.  SSA is sending these claimants information about how they can request Appeals Council review and are giving them 60 days to do so.
