In a press release issued on April 4, 2022, Social Security announced the reopening of local offices beginning April 7, 2022.  In-person services have resumed, including for people without an appointment.  Due to a high volume of customers with health vulnerabilities, Social Security will require masks, physical distancing, and self-health checks for COVID-19 symptoms.  Masks will be provided to the public who need them.

Reopening offices is a great step forward for disabled claimants who do not have reliable access to the internet or phone to check their accounts or file disability claims.  Social Security reports that their offices are busiest first thing in the morning, early in the week, and during the first part of the month.  Finding your local Social Security office can be done at Social Security’s field office locator.
