Perhaps they wanted you to pay a fee to fix it or confirm all your other private information and then they really ruin your credit and financial future.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) issued a notice to all ssa.gov account holders stating that March 9, 2023 is National Slam the Scam Day. SSA gives you the following guidelines to recognize Social Security-related scams and stop scammers from stealing your money and personal information.
