Soldiers’ Angels Food Distribution Event
This past Friday I had the pleasure of volunteering for a non-profit called Soldiers’ Angels at a mobile food distribution event in Englewood, Colorado. Soldiers’ Angels is a wonderful non-profit whose mission is to provide aid, comfort, and resources to the military, veterans, and their families.
The mobile food distribution event took place in an Elks Lodge parking lot in Englewood and the parking lot filled up fast. We began setting up at 9:30 am for an 11:30 am start for distributing the food we were providing and already cars had begun to fill the grid in the parking lot. Shortly, after 10:00 am, a semi-truck pulled up and was packed to capacity. Surely, this was for multiple events, but no it was all for the veterans at our event. We got to work setting up five stations with over 200 grocery bags filled with items like chips, ground turkey, spaghetti, fresh produce, salad kits, cookies, and more at each station. After working to get all the bags filled, we were finally ready for the cars. They came through steady for over three hours with every veteran per car receiving at least 75 pounds of groceries for themselves and their families. The parking lot finally cleared out at about 3:30 and our work was done. Every bit of food that had come off the semi-truck that morning had been distributed to a veteran in one of over 200 cars that came through the event.
The mobile food distribution event was such a good time and so rewarding for both the volunteers and the veterans as well. I would highly encourage you all to visit Soldiers’ Angels website to find out more about the great work they do throughout the country.
