Navigation Department of Veterans Affairs to Receive Budget Boost for Fiscal Year 2022
The House Appropriations committee is voting today, Friday, June 25, 2021, on a budget proposal that would significantly increase the budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs for Fiscal Year 2022. If approved as expected, the VA will receive $113.1 billion in discretionary spending, which is an 8% increase from the current budget and about $176 million more than President Biden had requested in his budget. This increase in discretionary spending would boost the VA’s 2022 budget to over $270 billion.
The appropriations committee has stated that such an increase demonstrates the strong commitment that is being made to servicemembers, their families and veterans and provides a blueprint for how to make our VA and military stronger and more responsive.
Further, the new budget proposal includes $10.9 billion for military construction projects for the next fiscal year, a level of funding $3 billion above current levels and $1 billion more than the President’s request.
