While most Veterans are familiar with disability benefits that can be claimed through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for service-connected disorders, you may not know that you could be entitled to benefits based on age or non-service-connected disabilities or disorders as well. The Veterans Pension program provides monthly payments to wartime Veterans who meet certain age or disability requirements, and who have income and net worth within certain limits. There are specific requirements that must be met in order to qualify for non-service-connected pension. You must meet the following:

Both of these must be true: The Veteran must not have received a dishonorable discharge and must meet, or be under, a family income and net worth limit set by Congress.
