Hurt and can’t work? You could get SSDI
As a teacher, nurse, office worker or other professional who has been hurt on or off the job, you deserve an opportunity to get the support you need as you recovery. If you cannot return to your job for at least 12 months because of your injuries or an illness, then one of the benefits you might want to look into is Social Security Disability Insurance.
Social Security Disability Insurance provides coverage to those who have worked long enough to pay enough into the SSDI benefits system. If you have 40 credits, or if you have enough credits based on your age, then you will be able to apply for SSDI if you cannot return to work.
